B.Sc. (Hons) in Electrical Engineering program of OUSL is one of the major disciplines offered to produce higher level of technical and management grade graduates in the electrical engineering profession. This academic programme specialized in the fields of planning, design, operation and control with an industrial training and an associated project component is specially designed to produce quality skillful electrical engineers.
B.Sc. (Hons) in Electrical Engineering courses are focused on planning, design, construction, reliability aspects, operations and controls in the field of electricity generation, transmission and distribution. With the Hands-on experience they gather from the world established software tools installed in the power system laboratory, graduate students are well groomed to face the future challenges and work confidently in the field of electrical engineering.
Core courses of the B.Sc. (Hons) in Electrical Engineering program consist of electro-mechanical energy conversion, Power system studies with protective measures, Power systems planning with reliability concepts, high voltage engineering with insulation coordination, necessary electronics/controls/communication/management and mathematics support. Also, students have the opportunity to select optional courses to enhance their knowledge from various other engineering disciplines.
Programme learning outcomes:
PLO1: Apply knowledge of mathematics, basic sciences and engineering fundamentals to the analysis of complex engineering problems.
PLO2: Identify, formulate, research literature, conduct investigations and solve complex engineering problems to provide valid conclusions.
PLO3: Design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs.
PLO4: Conduct investigations of complex problems using research based knowledge and research methods.
PLO5: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools to complex engineering activities.
PLO6: Assess societal, health, safety, legal, cultural and environmental issues related to professional engineering solutions.
PLO7: Demonstrate broad knowledge of sustainable development concepts and practices required for dealing with contemporary issues related to professional engineering practice.
PLO8: Demonstrate broad knowledge of ethical responsibilities and professional standards
PLO9: Demonstrate ability to function effectively as an individual and in multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams, with the capacity to be a leader or manager as well as an effective team member.
PLO10: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
PLO11: Demonstrate broad knowledge of management and business practices, including financial management, risk and change management.
PLO12: Engage in independent and lifelong learning in the broad context of technological Change
Minimum and Maximum period of the study programme:
The minimum duration of the Honours Degree programme starting from level 3 is 5 academic years and the maximum number of academic years a student can spend to complete the degree programme is fifteen (15).
Exemptions applicable for Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering Study programme:
Students who have academic qualifications other than entry requirements may be granted exemptions according to their qualifications. Such qualifications the student could claim exemptions are listed under each study programme. However, notwithstanding the exemptions obtained, a student has to follow the relevant OUSL courses and obtain certain minimum number of credits to qualify for an award. Such minimum limits are given under the description of each study programme. If you possess any qualification other than those listed in this guidebook, you can seek exemptions by sending duly filled application form which is downloadable from the faculty webpage.
