Graduates of Bachelor of Science Honours in Civil Engineering offered by the Department of Civil Engineering are employed as engineers at various levels of the construction industry that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like buildings, roads, railways, bridges, canals, dams, harbours, airports and water supply, sewage disposal and irrigation schemes. Civil engineering as a profession is responsible for developing and providing infrastructure and services for the society with due consideration for safety and the environment. The minimum duration of the Bachelor of Science Honours in Civil Engineering is four years and the medium of instruction is English.

Admission Requirements
• Obtained passes in the subjects, Combined Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination, Sri Lanka, in one & the same sitting, or
• Obtained the Advanced Certificate in Science with courses in the disciplines of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, offered by The OUSL, or
• Obtained a minimum three (3) credit (C) passes for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in Cambridge/Edexcel Advanced Level Examination within three years, or
• Obtained an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate.
