Dr Nimsha Weerakkody joined the Department of Agricultural and Plantation Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Technology as a Demonstrator in 2001. She was recruited to a permanent position as a Lecturer (Probationary) in the same department on the 1st of June 2004. In 2007, she was awarded the Asian Development Bank scholarship under Distance Education Modernization Project at the OUSL to pursue postgraduate studies at the School of Food Science and Agriculture at the University of Queensland Australia. she was awarded a PhD degree in the field of Food Molecular and Microbiology on 19th December 2011.
In 2012, she received two competitive research grant awards from the National Science Foundation and National Research Council. She has published 12 refereed journal articles during postgraduate studies and to date. According to the Google scholar https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=g3ykXRsAAAAJ&hl=en she has more than 500 citations and H-index of 7. Out of 18 publications, 10 are indexed in Web of Science /Publons https://publons.com/researcher/3009997/nimsha-weerakkody/ cwith H-index 6. Eight publications are indexed in Scopus https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=36151585100 with H-index 5 (9.05 2020). In addition, she has been serving as a reviewer and reviewed nearly 28 manuscripts belonging to the Scientific Cited journals to date
In October 2015, she became the Head of the department and served for three years until October 2018. She served as a visiting academic at the University of Queensland, Australia from 1st February 2019 -29th January 2020. She has more than 20 years of experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching since 2004.
