Dr. Nalin Wikramanayake graduated with the degree of B. Sc. (Eng) (Hons) in 1985, and completed the degrees of Master of Science (SM, 1989) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD, 1993) in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He was an Assistant Lecturer (1986-1993) and Senior Lecturer (1994 to 1996) in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Peradeniya and worked as a Senior Research Engineer at the Lanka Hydraulic Institute from 1996 to 1998 before joining the Open University of Sri Lanka as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering in 1999.

Dr. Wikramanayake has participated in many scientific programs at the national and international level.  He has collaborated in research and research supervision with many overseas and Sri Lankan universities.  He has advised and participated in capacity building with many govermental and non-governmental organizations in Sri Lanka.
