Bachelor of Science Honours in Psychology

This programme is structured for individuals interested in understanding the discipline of Psychology and its many subfields using the open, distance and flexible platform facilitated by the OUSL.

The main objective of the programme is to provide students with comprehensive knowledge in the main theoretical domains of Psychology and practical skills applicable to the Sri Lankan context. The courses are designed to enable students to use a range of research skills and methods while adhering to ethical standards of the discipline while carrying out independent research projects. We also aim to facilitate the learners to develop critical

analysis of practical, theoretical and ethical issues in Psychology, as they prepare for further learning or gaining practical experiences in the field under supervision.

To obtain this Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, students will be required to complete courses at the Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6. Courses at each year comprise a total of 30 credits, with a cumulative total of 120 credits for all four years of the programme

Applicants should possess the following qualifications

  1. Obtained a minimum of:
    a) Three (03) Pass grades in one sitting at the G.C.E. A/Level Examination, in any stream of study, or,
    b) C grades or equivalent of 60 credits among (considered equivalent to 3 A/Level passes) from among the Foundation Courses of the OUSL in Science/Social Sciences, or,
    c) An equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate

      AND,

d) S Pass for English at the G.C.E. O/Level examination

      AND,

  1. Pass the computer-based Selection Test conducted for the purpose of admission.
    a) The test includes a 90 minutes computer- based theory test(General Knowledge, Reading Comprehension & Basic Writing Skills and
    b) Viva Voce (Oral Examination)Candidates should obtain a minimum of 50% each for the theory test (Part 1) and the viva voce (Part 2), to be eligible for selection.

Limited number of candidates will be selected on merit basis.
